Lower Primary Homeroom Teacher
Responsibilities
At this school in Beijing, Lower Primary consists of Reception, Grade 1 and Grade 2. We embrace a Co-Teaching model with both an International Teacher and Local Chinese Teacher assigned to each class. They endeavor to keep our class sizes small, with a maximum of 22 students per group. Students learn in a fully bilingual environment with specialist classes taught by elite sports coaches and arts professionals from around the world. The lower primary homeroom teacher is expected:
• To promote literacy at all times inside and outside the classroom;
• To be the first point of contact for parents in all matters related to their students, both academic, co-curricular and pastoral, maintaining regular contact with parents regarding student progress and behaviour;
• To promote and maintain a positive learning environment at all times, including maintenance of good behaviour and positive relationships, in accordance with the school’s Behaviour Policy and student Guidance;
• To maintain contact with other staff, grade leaders and the Student Affairs department in respect of progress and behaviour;
• To provide front line pastoral support to students, which requires a deep understanding of each student’s background, character, strengths and areas for development;
• To deliver the content of the relevant Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) programme in designated HRT periods, which aims to develop social and personal skills in students;
• To be familiar with and monitor the progress of their students in other classes and subjects and to provide appropriate support where students may be making insufficient progress;
• To be familiar with and uphold all School aims, values and policies at all times;
• To assist students in their wider development, for example by supporting them in sports fixtures, musical performances or dramatic productions;
• To provide opportunities for collaborative projects for the students, for example as part of whole school charity efforts, events for parents or other whole school events;
• To guide and support students in the school assembly programme;
• To take daily morning and afternoon attendance registers via the relevant school management information system; • To maintain a vibrant and positive classroom environment;
• To set the appropriate tone and to be a role model in respect of dress, punctuality, conduct, good manners and environmental awareness;
• To carry out other duties as reasonably expected by the Headmaster.
Requirements
• Educators who are truly passionate about teaching and want to make a sustained impact
• Bachelor’s degree or above
• Teaching Qualification
• At least 3 years full time teaching successful experience
• Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff, students and parents
• English speaker at native level
